With all of the excitement of the new school year, September is a good time to really get organised. No matter how old we get, we can never quite shake that ‘1st day of school’ feeling, and we are certainly never too old to stop learning. Professional organiser and interior stylist Charlotte Sitton (@organisedbycharlotte) is here to share her expert tips for a tidier home (no matter how many toys they leave around the house!)
I think a majority of my clients have trouble organising the playroom and the kids’ bedrooms – and basically any area where the kids toys are!! It’s all about having a system in place so you know where everything goes. Then, at the end of every day, calm and tidy can easily be restored.
Here are my top tips to make it easy and straightforward for you to organise your kids’ space.
1/Make light work of small toys
Always keep all of their smaller toys together! Small figurines can easily get lost in a huge toy bag, so use a small storage bag to organise them all together. This will make them easier to not only tidy away but also for the kids to find and play with – I love this one.
2/Reuse what you have
If you have a little creative at home, it would be a shame not to keep some of their favourite artwork! Instead of shoving their work in with the toys, I like to use a luxury gift box, like one I got from My 1st Years, to safely store my favourite pieces away.
3/Be a storage superstar
Plastic toys are often the most popular at playtime but they’re not the most visually pleasing. Use a larger toy storage box so you can put them all away at the end of the day and keep everything feeling calm. I like this one.
4/Double up to tidy up
The dressing up stuff – it goes everywhere: there are shoes, wands, swords… everywhere! Make it easy to tidy up at the end of the day with storage that is just dedicated to their dress up stuff. My choice also doubles up as a bench!
5/Show their laundry some love
6/Trick them into tidying
I love it when a toy can be doubled up as storage! Use a wooden pull along to store all the kids’ little animals or unicorns instead of a plastic tub. Not only does it look so much better, but it’s also much more fun! I love this new pull along.
7/Keep nappies neat
Having nappies and creams to hand doesn’t need to look cluttered – I love using this basket to store all of those essentials.
8/Give their teddies a home
Teddy bears – there are always so many!! My little one loves her tent, and all her teddies live in there! I just saw My 1st Years now do tents too which is the perfect gift for any kid! click here
