4 ways to have a fun family New Year at home

December 29, 2020Celebrate with us, Celebrations, Parenting, Things To Do

New Years has always traditionally been a time to get together with family and friends and to toast to the year that’s passed. Parties will certainly be a lot smaller this year, but that doesn’t mean it won’t still be special. After all, 2020 has been a difficult year for all of us and the end of it is certainly something to celebrate.

The best part of staying home through 2020 has undoubtedly been not really needing to get dressed. Loungewear and pyjamas have been the real stars of the show, so it’s only right to wave goodbye to this year how we’ve spent it. Snuggle up  in a pair of personalised pyjamas and wrap up in a fleecy soft robe to make the last cuddles of 2020 the cuddliest yet.

Set a mock midnight

Picture it: the countdown is on, the new year is about to begin and your overtired toddler is in the middle of a massive tantrum. As lovely as it sounds to celebrate with your little ones, it isn’t worth disrupting their sleep routine. A mock midnight lets you have the best of both worlds: family celebrations with an excited toddler who can finally stay up late with the grown ups AND some quiet parent time to ring in (or sleep through) the new year! All it takes is a couple of clock changes to convince your kids that 9pm is really 12am, it’s been dark since lunchtime anyway.

Whether you plan a pretend midnight or stay true to your time zone, you’re probably going to be hungry. Plan a little feast of all your favourite treats to start the new year on the right foot. Instead of energy spiking sweets, fruit kebabs, cheese straws, hummus and crackers are all delicious choices that can also improve sleep quality. For an extra touch of fun, serve them all up on an adorable animal design bamboo plate for a snack with their name on it.

After a year spent indoors, now is a wonderful time to let their imaginations run wild. This new year brings with it new hope, a chance to think about your family’s dreams and aspirations. Take some time away from screens to get stuck into some imaginative play and really explore your little one’s ideas and interests. Could they be a future doctor, a celebrity hairstylist, an interior design expert or a michelin starred chef? Although it may not seem like it right now, the possibilities really are endless.

However you choose to spend your New Years this year, we hope you have a wonderful time. Don’t forget to tag us @My1stYears #My1stYears on Instagram so we can celebrate with you!
