4 ways to enjoy a cosy family weekend at home

January 27, 2021Lifestyle, Things To Do

January is never an easy month: it’s still dark, it’s getting colder and this year we are spending even more time at home indoors. While there is a lot of pressure on us to be more active and make big lifestyle changes, this year a little self care can go a long way. Stress levels are high and moods are low, we could all do with a duvet day (or week…) So, round up your littles, turn on your family’s favourite film and check out our list of lazy weekend essentials.

Just because you’re not going anywhere, doesn’t mean you don’t need to dress up – but maybe not in the way you think. We’re talking soft fabrics and loose styles for maximum comfort, whatever you get up to. Update your little ones’ collection of cosy clothing with a fashion-forward tracksuit, a fleece-lined romper for lots of wriggling and a soft and snuggly dressing gown. Don’t forget to order one for yourself, too!

A relaxed weekend is always fun, but a relaxed weekend with friends is even better. While we  can’t spend time with anyone outside of our household, your little ones can still spend time with their favourite (fluffy) friends. Huggably soft and packed with personality, introduce them to fantastic foxes, delightful dolls and soft cuddly bears, the perfect duvet day companions.

On top of everything else, the last thing we want right now is to feel cold. So, bring on the blankets – the more the merrier. Enjoy an at-home picnic (ok, hot chocolate and banana bread) on a soft neutral blanket, cocoon in a luxurious jacquard blanket or wrap a little nap star up warm in an intarsia knitted blanket

Think about it, is there anything more comforting than a homemade cookie, fresh from the oven? As we all learned in Lockdown 1, baking is a brilliant therapeutic activity. Release some of that tension as you mix and beat your batter, clear your mind as you concentrate on the process and sit down to really enjoy the fruits of your labour. While you whip up a batch of tasty treats, let your little one practice with their very own play set for an afternoon activity you can share together.

However you are getting through this lockdown, always remember that we are all in it together. If you do declare this a duvet weekend, tag us in your images on Instagram @my1styears #my1styears so we can share the relaxing vibes with you!

With love,
