It may sound strange, but here at My 1st Years we were a little sad to see January go. Despite blue Monday and the late icy snap, the first month of the year was very exciting for us at HQ – mostly because our new season collection launched! A combination of delicate pastels and striking prints, this new collection features everything from sleepwear to soft toys. Crafted using ultra soft cottons, each piece of clothing has been designed to ensure a cosy fit because we know keeping infants comfortable, is essential to keeping them happy! To add a touch of style, fun elements have been added to items in the form of playful pom-poms and intricate frills and every item can also be personalised for free, to make them extra special!
Yet despite all of this, the real stars of our new collection have been by far, our new hand-drawn bunny and nautical prints! In fact, we’ve had so much interest from you guys about them that we’ve decided to dedicate this blog post to answering the questions we’ve been most frequently asked regarding our new prints and the process of bringing them to life.
1. ARE THEY 100% HAND-DRAWN?
We’re really proud to say yes! Both are bunny and nautical prints were completely hand-drawn by our talented print designer, Claire. This was done to ensure that each print was perfectly crafted to our high standards and that the quality of prints was consistent from when it first appeared on paper to when it was reproduced on collection items.
2. HOW DO YOU GET THE PRINTS FROM PAPER TO CLOTHING?
We’re not surprised this question has come up a lot, since it’s always interesting to have a behind-the-scenes understanding of your favourite pieces. Overall, the process of crafting a print generally lasts between one to two weeks and is carried out in three key segments – research, drawing and fine-tuning. The longest segment is generally the drawing process and often several drafts are made before a print is given the thumbs up. When the fine-tuning stage is reached, the focus is primarily on choosing the correct colours which compliment one another and can bring the print to life.
3. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO DRAW?
The decision of what are prints will look like is taken in the early research stage of our print production. Our biggest inspiration is you, our amazing customers – what your little ones are wearing, what your little ones are interested in and much more. The guiding principle of everything we do at My 1st Years is centered on making pieces that our customers love, so if there are any prints that you would love to see then please get in touch and you never know, they feature in our autumn collection!
