We all know how difficult it is to stay fit both before and after the baby arrives – so we’ve sat down with a trainer who specialises in keeping mums on their toes in a unique class at Lomax Gym in Chelsea. Think you could use her assistance?
Tell us a little about yourself…
My name is Charlie Launder, I was born and bred in London and after studying at Oxford Brookes university, I returned to London and haven’t left since.
What’s your background?
I grew up in the world of artistic gymnastics, still currently training and competing when I can. The sport is tough and taught me from a young age that hard work and sheer determination is essential. It also taught me a huge deal about the human body and what it can achieve.
I have been a personal trainer for over 5 years; when I began I quickly found myself in the pregnancy world, with nearly all of my initial client base getting pregnant around the same time! It escalated quickly as mums love to recommend to other mums and fast forward 5 years I am surrounded by bumps and babies 24/7.
What do you do at Bumps & Burpees?
I set up Bumps & Burpees with Jonathan Lomax of the Lomax Gym. Having both been personal trainers to clients in their pregnancies for years, we came together to create a concept where we look after our clients during their pregnancy and into motherhood. This includes training, nutrition, massage, physiotherapy and anything that will help them to stay healthy throughout this important time.
What do you offer that other gyms don’t?
What is different about us is that mums can bring their babies with them to their training sessions. Their personal trainer is equipped to keep them happy right there next to you while you workout. We have lift access for the buggies, and a whole host of equipment so that you can forget all the worries about childcare. We can wear your baby in a carrier, rock them to sleep, bottle feed or simply entertain them with endless toys while you get to work right there next to them.
What do you love most about your job?
I love going on the journey with my clients. We go through so many ups and downs together – morning sickness, scans, first kicks, lots more kicks, growing bumps, sleepless nights, due dates and life as a new mum. I love helping them stay at fit and healthy as they can through this time, and nothing beats meeting that little baby for the first time.
